In contrast to the trap-leaning sound of his last release, “I Don’t Want To Die”, Khaid switches things up with the ease of a music prodigy on his newest vibrant single, “Rover,” featuring fast-rising street-hop artist Ayo Maff. Together, they create an uptempo Afropop rhythm that commands the dancefloor, with an almost perfect synergy that feels timeless.

Beyond its refreshing burst of energy, “Rover” carries sticky production and equally catchy lyrics — qualities that have come to define Khaid’s music — making it instantly addictive. His lush vocals radiate a warmth that sits comfortably on Bolabmh’s bubbly production as he opens the two-minute track reflecting on a short-lived past love. He finds solace in drugs before ushering listeners into a chorus that’s as infectious as it is memorable: “I dey for back seat of my rover, with my dealer we dey talk about the mulla, but you dey for back seat of your rover with Anita wey you jam for Ipaja.”

Khaid’s opening verse sets a solid template for guest artiste Ayo Maff, whose delivery becomes the perfect icing on this sonic cake “Rover” is shaping up to be. As the song unfolds, it becomes clear that Khaid and Ayo Maff’s intent is to create a hustle anthem — one with a celebratory tone rather than the gritty desperation typical of such records. Ayo Maff continues Khaid’s legacy of prioritizing financial stability over heartbreak. “Hasta la fuego, hasta la fuego, omo wetin dey sup / Mo wo Telemundo, mo wo Telemundo, omo I no fit chop / Say me I’ve had enough, who said money can’t buy love,” he sings, his cadence smooth as silk, trading affection for ambition.

The energy stays buoyant as Khaid returns with a message of staying true to hard work and the grind, reflecting on the “becoming” days that shaped him. He closes out the delicious record with a final reprise of the now-familiar chorus, sealing “Rover” as an anthem that blends ambition, rhythm, and the unmistakable joy of self-made success.

With “Rover,” Khaid once again proves his versatility and instinct for sonic reinvention. The song bridges introspection and celebration, heartbreak and hustle, a balance that only few young artists can pull off so effortlessly. It’s the sound of a rising star still evolving, yet completely in tune with his generation’s pulse.

It’s another New Music Friday, and this week brings a vibrant mix of sonic expressions from some of Afrobeats’ most exciting voices. From Burna Boy’s emotive release to Ayo Maff’s rising momentum and Blaqbonez’s ever-evolving artistry, the new drops are packed with flavor and range. Whether you’re here for hard-hitting bars, soulful melodies, or genre-bending experiments, there’s something fresh for every listener to dive into.

Towa — Dice Ailes

After taking a breather from the spotlight following his 2024 release ‘Dicey Baba,‘ Dice Ailes is back with new music. His latest single ‘Towa’ is a slow-burning love record that taps into something more personal than flashy: loyalty, gratitude, and the kind of intimacy that doesn’t chase attention but commands it. Wrapped in soothing Afrobeat rhythms and honeyed melodies, Dice leans into vulnerability, laying bare the emotional stakes of being held down by someone who sees you beyond your wins or losses. From the first few lines, you hear an artist not in a rush but in full control, letting the production breathe and the words land. The chorus lingers, subtle but sticky, and his vocal delivery exudes a quiet sincerity that makes “Towa” both a love letter and a reintroduction. For fans who’ve missed his voice, this is a reminder of what Dice brings to the table: a melodic honesty that doesn’t try too hard but still hits home. Whether this signals a full-blown rollout or just a soft reset, it’s clear Dice Ailes is stepping back into the conversation.

Sweet Love — Burna Boy

Fresh off his historic headline show at Stade de France and a cover spot on Billboard France, Burna Boy continues a fairly dominant 2025 run with ‘Sweet Love’ — a track that strays from the bombast of hits like “Last Last” and “City Boys” and opts instead for warmth, restraint, emotional and Carribean texture. The new single, produced by Major Seven, delivers a breezy, reggae-tinged atmosphere fused with Burna’s signature Afrofusion touch, sitting somewhere between romantic yearning and soft declaration. Rather than push a heavy message or anthemic hook, Burna lets the groove guide the narrative. The instrumentation is lush; gentle percussion, soulful basslines, and a relaxed tempo that lets his voice glide smoothly across verses that suggest a craving for love that’s unaffected by fame or fortune. There’s a quiet maturity in his delivery, and even in its simplicity, the record offers depth.

As a piece of the larger puzzle that is ‘No Sign of Weakness‘, “Sweet Love” peels back another layer of Burna Boy, not the global firebrand, but a man smitten by affection. And, if this is a taste of what the album holds, we’re likely in for Burna’s most emotionally layered project yet.

Lazy Baby — Ayo Maff

At just 19, Ayo Maff is already proving himself as a distinct voice in Nigeria’s fast-evolving music scene. His latest single ‘Lazy Baby’ builds on the momentum of his singles and feature run and shows that he’s not just a moment. Produced by godOmarr, “Lazy Baby” blends an upbeat production with sharp, reflective lyrics that swing between cheeky rebellion and introspective musings.

The song, which dropped right after his buzzy appearance at the 17th Headies, feels both carefree and calculated. It embraces the concept of being “lazy” not as a flaw, but as a refusal to conform to hustle culture or expectations. His lyrical snapshots, from dismissing math class to poking fun at societal pressures, feel authentic, lived-in, and unmistakably streetwise. But even in its defiance, “Lazy Baby” rides on a sweet groove that makes the listener hit replay.

As the lead single off his forthcoming debut album ‘Prince of the Street‘, the track positions Ayo Maff as a street poet, philosopher and a new-gen narrator with stories that resonate across age groups and settings. With each release, he continues to balance melody and message, showing growth without losing his youthful edge.

Kaestyle — ROOKIES Don’t Sound This Good (EP)

Following his nomination in the rookie category at the 17th Headies Awards, Kaestlye surprises fans with a new studio project titled ‘ROOKIES Don’t Sound This Good‘. The Port Harcourt-bred artist delivers a tight, three-track EP that wears its title like a declaration. This is music from someone who knows exactly where he’s going and is unbothered by industry labels. On the opening track “Chineke” featuring Starsamm — a playful, affectionate number soaked in warm melodies — Kaestyle sets the tone for a project that balances feel-good energy with lyrical purpose. The title track, “Rookies Don’t Sound This Good,” is where Kaestyle really flexes. It’s both a mission statement and a subtle clapback, suggesting that he’s far beyond starter territory. His blend of Afro-pop, R&B, and street-savvy cadence paints the portrait of an artist not just trying to impress, but to outlast. And on “How Much,” he takes things to the club with swagger and groove, but even that comes with a thoughtful undercurrent that reflects his duality.

This EP follows the success of singles like “Forever” and his 2022 debut project, ‘Kae’s Study‘, and it’s clear the KeyQaad signee is evolving fast. With nods to legends like 2Baba and Wande Coal woven into his sonic DNA, Kaestyle is proving that you don’t need a full album to make a statement, just confidence, craft, and a little finesse. ‘ROOKIES Don’t Sound This Good‘ is more than a clever title; it’s a fitting reminder that some artists don’t wait to be anointed; they simply arrive.

In “Follow Her,” the duo explores themes of love, desire, and the complexities of modern relationships. Blaqbonez’s clever wordplay and humorous takes on romantic pursuits are complemented by Kizz Daniel’s smooth vocals, creating a dynamic interplay that keeps listeners engaged.
Fresh off the high of ‘Press Play‘ and marking a decade in the game, Niniola is in no mood to coast. With Ginger Me (Alum), the Afro-House queen throws down the gauntlet again; 2025 is for the dancefloor, and she’s commanding it with zero apologies. Backed by Niphkeys’ thumping, layered production, Ginger Me (Alum) is a bold, pulsating entry—equal parts kinetic energy and playful imagination. It’s the kind of track that doesn’t ask for movement; it demands it. From the very first beat, it’s clear that Niniola’s mission is simple: get bodies moving and keep them there.

But beyond the rhythm, there’s intent. She taps into that sweet spot where fantasy meets freedom. The lyrics flirt with desire and tease with imagery, all coated in her signature vocal sass. It’s feel-good music with high-octane flair, and she delivers it with the ease of someone who knows she owns the lane.

In her own words, “This year, we are dancing and nothing else.” And with Ginger Me (Alum), she makes good on that promise. Whether you’re lit under club lights or just vibing through traffic, this track brings heat, bounce, and joy wrapped in pure Afro-House excellence. Ten years deep, and Niniola is still setting the tone. No gimmicks, just groove.

Purr – Shoday, Ayo Maff

After a stellar 2024 run, fast-rising Nigerian artist Shoday kicks off the new year with ‘Purr,’ an infectious collaboration with his frequent partner-in-vibes, Ayo Maff. Their last link-up, “Casablanca,” became a viral sensation and an instant fan favourite that dominated timelines and playlists. Now, ‘Purr’ picks up the baton and is already making serious noise, proving that their chemistry isn’t a fluke but a formula.

Over a lush, layered beat from Magicsticks, the track oozes laid-back groove and repeat-worthy vibes. It’s a case study in how online trends can fuel musical innovation when filtered through the right creative lens. Purr is yet another catchy track that showcases Shoday’s knack for weaving internet culture into his music in a way that feels organic rather than gimmicky.

Shoday slides effortlessly over the beat, his mellow delivery floating across the textured production with ease. Ayo Maff complements the energy with a sharp, charismatic verse that adds flavour without overpowering the track. Together, they bottle the viral essence of the “Sope Purr” meme and flip it into something you can’t help but vibe to. With Purr, Shoday continues to build a lane marked by authenticity and adaptability.

Global Afrobeats heavyweight Davido returns with his fifth studio album, ‘5ive‘—a 17-track body of work that marks a pivotal chapter in his career. Riding high off the Grammy-nominated ‘Timeless,’ Davido doubles down with ‘5ive,’ delivering a bold, genre-spanning project that both reflects his growth and cements his global appeal.

Executive-produced by Davido himself, with creative guidance from Alwajud and Tycoone Umarudeen, the album lands with major momentum thanks to three lead singles: “Awuke” featuring YG Marley, “Funds” with ODUMODUBLVCK and Chike, and “Be There Still,” a vibrant Amapiano bop crafted by Marvey Muzique, DJ Maphorisa, and Black Culture.

‘5ive’ showcases Davido’s evolution and his gift for building bridges between cultures through music. The album effortlessly blends Afrobeats, R&B, Amapiano, pop, and dancehall into a rich sonic mosaic, proving he’s unafraid to experiment. The guest list is a who’s who of global talent: Omah Lay (With You), Victony and Musa Keys (Holy Water), Chris Brown (Titanium), Victoria Monét (Offa Me), Becky G (Tek), Shenseea and 450 (R&B), Tayc and Dadju (Lover Boy), and more.

In his own words, Davido describes the album as a reflection of his “growth, journey, and where I am now”. When he dropped the tracklist on Instagram (April 14, 2025), he captioned it: “Legacy is not what you leave behind, but what you breathe into the future.” Early listens suggest he’s not just talking the talk.

Super-producer Rexxie is back with Egbami, a fresh, high-energy collab with rising singer-songwriter Rybeena, and the result is a tune that feels effortless yet electric. Renowned for crafting street anthems that stick, Rexxie once again showcases his versatility and elite ear for hooks that move both hearts and hips.

Egbami is pure street-pop bliss, layered with the bouncy drums and rhythmic richness expected from Rexxie. The production is textured, yet uncluttered, leaving enough room for Rybeena to float with ease. His vocals glide over the beat with confidence, delivering catchy melodies and hooks that demand attention.

What makes this drop special is its balance. While it’s a street-certified jam, it also highlights Rexxie’s continued knack for spotlighting new talent. Egbami is breezy, replay-worthy, and perfectly crafted for the current soundscape. For Rexxie, it’s another win in a stacked discography; for Rybeena, it’s a major step forward, one that hints at even more magic to come in his budding career.

Over a calm, cyclical guitar loop, Tim Lyre joins forces with Show Dem Camp to unpack the heavy weight of life in Nigeria, touching on the hustle, mental strain, and the harsh realities of the economy. At a time when socio-political commentary in music has taken a backseat to club-ready hits, Economy is a breath of fresh introspection.

Tim Lyre sets the tone with reflective vocals that balance vulnerability and resolve. Then, Tec and Ghost step in with their signature storytelling, turning everyday frustration into poignant, relatable bars. From unstable electricity to skyrocketing food prices, stagnant wages and broken infrastructure. Tec opens his verse with urgency and metaphors, while Ghost closes his with a jab at the incumbent president and his government: “Tpain, you dey fuck up”

‘Economy‘ in a country where silence can feel like complicity dares to speak, and in doing so, it resonates deeply with anyone trying to survive and make sense of Nigeria today.

New Music Friday rolls in again with a fresh batch of sonic gems, setting the tone for the weekend and beyond. This week, we’re met with a lineup that spans soulful confessions, high-energy anthems, and experimental blends that push the boundaries of sound. With chart-topping heavyweights delivering long-awaited projects and emerging voices staking their claim, there’s plenty to dive into. This week’s New Music Friday drops have something for every listener. Let’s get into it, shall we.

Panic — Ayo Maff

A painter of stories with words, communicated through melodies, fast-rising star Ayo Maff has released his first single of the year. Teasing ‘Panic‘ in previous weeks via his social media accounts, Ayo Maff reflects on his musical journey, unpacking how his experiences have shaped his life. While he makes it clear that he’s deeply in love with his craft, the weight of his personal experiences fuels a lingering anxiety—one he copes with through temporary escapes. For Ayo Maff, the only true solace amid the struggle is the happiness of a loved one, a happiness he wouldn’t hesitate to sacrifice his own for.

Finally, it arrives! The rollout journey, which began in October 2024, now reaches a major milestone as Qing Madi releases her debut album, ‘I Am The Blueprint’. For fans, this has been a thrilling ride, with the 19-year-old rising star offering more than just a glimpse of what’s to come by dropping four lead singles ahead of the 13-track album. Making a bold statement, Qing Madi revealed a guest-free tracklist—an uncommon move in the Nigerian music scene for a debut project. ‘I Am The Blueprint’ stands as a unique vault of love ballads, arguably one of the best from the new generation of artists.

STANDOUT TRACKS: Feeling Alright, Pressure, Gimme Your Love, Favorite Girl.

Ahead of his sophomore album ‘Iron Boy’, set to drop in April, Black Sherif releases another potential lead single featuring Nigerian superstar Fireboy DML. Like many of his records, ‘So It Goes’ is a testament to persistence and an unshakable, laser-focused pursuit of success. Over an upbeat, grime-influenced hip-hop beat, he details the highs and lows of both his personal and love life. His choice of collaboration proves to be a masterstroke, as Fireboy DML stays well within Black Sherif’s sonic universe, effortlessly aligning with the song’s emotive depth.

Management — Smur Lee ft. BIGKHALID

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="664" height="381" src="https://afromixx.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/images-17-1.jpeg" alt="Management — Smur Lee ft.
Building on the success of her previous smash hit ‘Juju’ featuring Odumodublvck—which organically took off on TikTok—Smur Lee sticks to the formula that earned her initial success: a dense, intricate production that pairs well with her freewheeling pen. ‘Management’ carries the same groove-driven appeal as ‘Juju’, once again immersing listeners in the world of fraud and its spoils—a reality that resonates deeply with many youths in the country. Given its theme and sonic appeal, ‘Management’ is poised to connect with a wide audience, potentially replicating the chart success of ‘Juju’.

Brown Joel, a core member of the “Ogechi Boys” collective, takes center stage on Colors Studios, delivering a raw, passionate performance of his new single, ‘Lose My Mind’. The groovy Afro-R&B record sees Brown Joel crafting an impassioned love ballad, embodying the spirit of a hopeless romantic. On ‘Lose My Mind’, he finds himself utterly consumed, lost in an intoxicating love that feels inescapable—yet strangely welcome. “For you I don loose my mind, For you I don loose my sense, For you I don mara.”
