Rosé of BLACKPINK delivered an intimate acoustic set, including her popular track “APT,” earning praise for its raw and breathtaking quality. Mariah the Scientist performed in striking GI Jane-inspired attire, showcasing tracks from her latest album Hearts Sold Separately, adding a soulful vibe to the night. Each group, distinct in hue and manner, filed past the Awujale’s pavilion, offering homage, prayers, and theatrical dance in a moving portrait of generational unity.

If Ojude Oba ever deserved a fashion award, 2025 sealed the deal. Social media, especially X and Instagram, were awash with striking ensembles. Highlights included the return of Farooq Oreagba, the “King of Steeze”, who rode in on horseback wearing a lavish agbada; his regal style once more capturing hearts and imaginations online, effortlessly retaining his 2025 Ojude Oba title. Similarly, familiar faces alongside celebrated icons like Akin Faminu, Tayo Odueke, and Governor Dapo Abiodun all graced the festival in regal agbadas.

The Balogun horsemen (descendants of Ijebu warriors) rode in with ceremonial canopies of flurry and flourish. Adorned stallions, crackling gun salutes, and rhythmic traditional wartime chants transformed the arena into a cinematic tableau of heritage. New to the limelight this year was Kofoworola Kuku, a female rider whose grace and a Kuku dynasty cap have sparked admiration and viral sharings across platforms. The ceremony resonated with echoes of ancestral pageantry and contemporary feminist pride.

The 2025 Ojude Oba Festival also drew notable figures from the entertainment industry, including music stars like Lil Kesh, Vector, and Bizzle Osikoya. Nollywood heavyweights such as Lateef Adedimeji and Femi Branch were also in attendance, bringing a blend of screen charisma and cultural homage with their stately appearances.

The four stages offered a unique soundsystem and live-on-stage experience. The 2024 Reggae Geel Festival in Belgium included a live-on-stage lineup of heavyweight legends and promising sensations, hosted by Sheldon Shepherd.

On Friday, the Gold Stage saw performances from Etana, Blvck H3ro and the Kasha Makka Band, Cimarons, Bnxn, Skip Marley, Postmen, Julian Marley and The Uprising, T.O.K., and Alborosie. The Dub Forest stage, as the name implies, was a section surrounded by tall trees.

There were performances by Kingstep Soundsystem feat. Joseph Lalibella and Rueben Gondor, Shikoba Sound feat. Dub Tubbie, Zulu Vibes, Pura Vida Productionz, Freedom Masses, Concrete Lion, and Iration Steppas feat. Mackey Banton.

You’d think that was it, but the two other stages were packed with as much energy. DJ Gajoy, Twinroot, YNG Cptn, Jamie Rodigan, Team Damp, Brooke Bailey, Dunrich World Sound, and Silly Walks Discotheque all set up and performed in the Bounce Dancehall Tent.

The Yaga Yaga section was a fusion of a yoga workshop and good music. The Reggae Rita Yoga Workshop was led by Reeta, a certified yoga instructor cum DJ.

The session blended traditional yoga asanas with the rhythmic beats of reggae music. Sjak Soundsystem, Soulboys vs. Rudeboys, Helea Louison, Leline Park, and Texas Ranger provided additional performance for Yaga Yaga attendees.

For the duration of the festival, which technically began on Thursday with a free official launch party, Reggae Geel festival made provisions for a camping site. Camping tickets cost €25 for a camping spot, access to sanitary facilities, recycling bin bags, and other necessities.

On Saturday, the Gold Stage reopened with new performances that transported attendees to the height of reggae music. The Gold Stage lineup, which was also hosted by Sheldon Shepherd, included Omar Perry and the Asham band, Jah Lil, YG Marley, Stonebwoy, Arrested Development, Luciano and the Messenjah band, D-masta, Marla Brown and the new generation family, Duane Stephenson and the new generation family, Dezarie, Christopher Ellis, and the Messenjah band.

King Original, Roots Explosion, Roots I-Vories, Ras Kush Black Redemption Sound, and Blackamix feat. Robbie Valentine entertained guests in the Dub Forest section. Furthermore, the Dub Forest bar was manned by deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals on Saturday, allowing attendees to order using only sign language. This was done to raise awareness about hearing damage at festivals. DJs such as Shar Perez, MJ, Selecta Killa, D-Masta, Masai and the Roots, Warrior Sound, and Massive B performed sets.

The section was not left out of live-on-stage performances, as Skillibeng took the stage and gave a performance that made the crowd go wild. The Yaga Yaga stage line-up for Saturday was quite similar to Friday’s but had new performances from Kris Van Beethoven, Raphi Scorcher, Sugar Charly, David Katz/Ras Digy, and Gladdy Wax.

Since its inception in 1978, Reggae Geel Festival has blossomed and grown into a culture more than just a festival. Still going strong after 45 years, all for the love of reggae music.

The festival was hosted by DJ and radio presenter Remi Burgz, Nadia Jae, DJ Target, and more. Kicking off on Friday last week, attendees were able to experience Nicki Minaj perform a full headline set for £94.60. And not just Nicki Minaj; a list of other artists was added to the Friday line-up, such as IceSpice, Sean Paul, Flo Milli, Destroy Lonely, and so on. Future appeared as a guest artist, and as he performed “Mask Off,” Finsbury Park roared back and sang along. The next day, the ticket sold for £148.00, with 21 Savage and Jhus as headliners. Other acts scheduled for Saturday included Asake, Gunna, Sexxy Red, Friday, Shalipopi, Skillibeng, and more.

Doja Cat proved to be the best headliner for the 2024 Wireless festival, as she wowed the crowd with an outstanding performance. Sunday saw more performances from Rema, Don Toliver, Uncle Waffles, Digga D, Ruger, Cash Cobain, but Tyla for some reason didn’t show up.

Since its inception in 2005, Wireless Festival has waxed stronger as a platform for fans to experience a live atmosphere and party with their favorite artists and to their favorite songs. With the exception of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here are some of our favorite African artists’ performance from this year’s Wireless Festival;

Rema

Rema gave an energetic performance that engaged and delighted the crowd yesterday. Standing on a set design that resembled a well carved volcanic rock to sing to the 50,000 crowd before walking the main stage. He performed songs like Holiday, Dimension, Soweto, Dimension, and a few tracks from his debut album. But not enough songs from his recent release, sadly. He shared the stage with Darkoo and debuted his verse on her viral “favorite girl” song, which is thought to be the remix. Shallipopi and his brother Zerrydl also joined Rema on the main stage to perform a song from his recently released sophomore album, Benin Boys.

Uncle Waffles 

Uncle Waffles not only put on a terrific performance, captivating the crowd with her DJ and impressive dance skills, but she also marked a significant achievement as the first DJ to headline in eight years and the only Amapiano act to perform at the event.

Asake 

Beginning his performance by recreating lil Yachty’s notorious “coffin entrance,” Asake owned the crowd, pulled off his shirt, and also invited a fan on stage to perform his Wave featuring Central Cee. He ended his act on a poetic note with Peace Be Unto You, a song from his debut album.

Ruger 

Ruger’s stage presence elicits just one reaction; the ladies swooning. Known for his playboy demeanor both on and off stage, the Wireless Festival crowd was treated to a sensual and electric performance. If you haven’t seen Ruger play live, he ultimately takes off his clothes and grabs a waist. 

Shallipopi 

On Saturday, Shallipopi also gave a satisfactory performance, and held his own on the Amazon music stage. He performed some of his hit songs, including “Cast,” which has recently regained popularity and is making onto new fans’ playlists of new fans as well as the lips of foreign artists like Travis Scott.

Live performances during the festival included The Streets, Mahalia, JME, Lancey, K-Trap, Odumodublvck, R2R Moe, Chip, Yg Marley, and a number of North London rappers. The Big Smoke stage also featured the Más Tiempo tent—his tech-house project with Jammer—which provided the audience with a club culture option, making for a more inclusive experience. The expanding crowd was ecstatic as they witnessed amazing sets from a range of DJs, including DJs Ossie, Kittie Amor, and Uncle Waffles, that incorporated house and African-inspired electronic music.

Odumodublvck took the stage to sing a song off his critically acclaimed album “Eziokwu,” titled “Blood on the Dance Floor.” The track featuring Wale and Bloody Samaritan ranked No. 1 on Turntable’s Official Nigeria Top 100 for four weeks. Fortunately, the audience matched his enthusiasm as he performed in the rain.

As soon as Skepta hits the stage, he transports the audience to his 2012 mixtape “Blacklisted” with the song “Same Shit, Different Day.” He sets the Big Smoke stage with a composed manner that is greeted by a fierce crowd. As he performed “Praise the Lord (da shine)” on the now dimly lit stage, the crowd showed no sign of slowing down. However, after the show and while he made his way backstage to his car, Skepta reiterated via Link Up TV that Saturday’s Big Smoke festival was the first of many to help voiceless artists.
