The crowd, already riding the energy of Chelsea’s commanding 3-0 lead, erupted as the 2X Grammy award winner emerged on stage in a bold, black one-shoulder top and matching trousers. Her poised, pitch-perfect delivery of “Love Me JeJe” — a soulful reimagining of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic — drew roaring applause. Since its release in April 2024, the track has resonated globally, blending the warmth of ‘90s Nigerian R&B with a modern, genre-bending edge. The historic performance marked the first-ever halftime show at a FIFA tournament, and Tems made history as the first African artist to headline the event. She performed a stylish rendition of “Love Me JeJe” backed by a full band and dancers, captivating both the stadium audience and global viewers.

Following her performance, Tems was joined on stage by an eclectic lineup of international stars: Doja Cat, who performed her hit track “Woman”; J Balvin, who energised the crowd with “Mi Gente”; and Coldplay, who closed the set with “A Sky Full of Stars” in a collaborative grand finale featuring all the performers and Australian singer Emmanuel Kelly for a unifying embrace. The halftime show closed with all the artists on stage, shoulder to shoulder in a unifying embrace.

The performance, curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin in partnership with Global Citizen and FIFA, was staged on a unique elevated setup above the pitch to preserve the field. It also served a charitable purpose, supporting FIFA and Global Citizen’s joint campaign to raise $100 million for global education initiatives.

While she faced stiff competition, Tems emerged victorious in the Best African Music Performance category, surpassing renowned artists such as Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Rema, and Asake. However, she did not secure wins in the other two categories, with SZA’s “Saturn” taking home Best R&B Song and Matt B featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Alkebulan II winning Best Global Music Album.

In her heartfelt acceptance speech, an emotional Tems expressed profound gratitude to God, dedicating the award to her mother, whose birthday was the following day, and acknowledging her dedicated team.

Tems’ Grammy accolades now include; Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Wait For U” (2023), Best African Music Performance for “Love Me Jeje” (2025).
