This is the UK Afroswing collective at their most focused, celebrating roots and movement by bridging UK street sensibilities with African rhythmic DNA, featuring heavyweight collaborators that include Nasty C, King Promise and fast-rising acts like Ayo Maff and Mavo, among others.

NSG leans fully into their signature blend: infectious Afrobeats rhythms, dancehall swagger, UK rap grit, and those smooth, layered harmonies that make them stand out in a crowded scene. The album is equal parts club-ready and culture-deep, a soundscape that refuses genre constraints while staying warm at the core of Afrobeat’s infectious rhythms. 

The production, largely helmed by 4Play, is crisp and vibrant; log drums bounce, guitars shimmer, and brass hits land just right. It’s summery even in January, built for cruising, parties, or late-night vibes.

Magixx taps into something both universal and intimate with “EVERYDAY”. One of Mavin Records’ smoothest voices, Magixx, opens 2026 strong with a brand new single that feels like his most heartfelt release yet, turning gratitude and everyday love into pure melody. The track leans into themes of gratitude, resilience, and self-belief, framed with a smooth, uplifting melody that underscores his evolution as an artist whose words mirror the breath of the moment. It’s a reflective groove that sits perfectly in playlists that cross from morning motivation to evening introspection, a quiet yet powerful reset that demands repeated listens.

The beat comes in soft and warm, mid-tempo Afrobeats with gentle log drums, subtle trumpets, shimmering keys, and subtle guitar licks that feel like sunlight filtering through. The African Dancehall King, Shatta Wale, wastes no time in 2026 as he kicks off with “Boss A Di Whole Place”, the explosive opener from his freshly dropped EP ‘Echoes Of The Ghetto’, and it’s already taking over the streets. Pure, unfiltered dancehall fire from the SM general himself.

“Boss A Di Whole Place” is a track that comes across to a listener like a declaration of territory. With heavy bass and militant energy slapping from the first bar, this is the Ghanaian dancehall king talking his truth.

The rhythm hits hard from the jump with heavy distorted basslines, sharp snares, and minimalist but urgent percussion that screams classic dancehall yard energy.  Shatta comes in raspy and commanding, declaring dominance from the gate: “Mi a di boss of di whole place / When mi step out every road straight.” He mixes boastful flexes with ghetto resilience: talking about system barriers, building his own gate, and rising anyway despite the pain. Then Stonebwoy slides in with that signature BHIM fire: raspy flow, motivational bars, and uplifting energy that adds serious depth and grit. His verse is pure inspiration, talking about overcoming barriers, believing in yourself, and going all in. The chemistry is effortless; they trade off like they’re hyping each other toward greatness.

Magixx – Unlimited

Nigerian crooner Magixx has dropped his electrifying new single, titled Unlimited. The song is Magixx’s first release for the year 2025, following his debut album ‘I Dream In Color’. “Unlimited” is a breezy and vibrant cut which sort of contrasts the R&B tempo vibe of his debut album. Ragee’s production leans on bouncy percussion and clean Afropop melodies, leaving enough room for Magixx’s smooth, unfussy delivery. It’s the kind of record that asks for sunroof drives and late-night rooftop hangs — equal parts romantic flair and youthful ambition. Two decades in, Chocolate City’s hold on the Nigerian rap scene doesn’t seem to have waned, and the new release from their camp is a rightfully earned flex of its rap pedigree. Emerging onto the music scene in 2021 under the umbrella of one of Nigeria’s most prominent record labels, Mavin Records, Magixx quickly made a statement with his self-titled EP, ‘Magixx’. He drew particular attention with the success of his R&B fusion “Love Don’t Cost A Dime,” which culminated in a nomination for “Rookie of the Year” at the Headies Awards. Poised to make his mark, he followed up with his sophomore EP ‘ATOM’ in 2022, quickly connecting with audiences and lovers of his craft. His unique way with melodies and signature vocals laid a sturdy foundation for his artistry, and with the backing of his record label, a successful career trajectory seemed inevitable.

But unlike his previous projects, Magixx’s debut album struggles to produce a song that could leave a lasting impression on the mainstream audience—especially at a time when Afrobeats’ soundscape is evolving. This isn’t due to his songwriting ability or artistic depth but rather a result of production choices. 

Much of the album features song arrangements that feel mismatched with their production, leaving the project flat—at best, an alternative offering suited to a niche audience with a particular taste for Magixx’s music. 

The rollout for ‘I Dream In Color’, which began as early as 2023, became more evident following the tease and eventual release of the emotive “Winter & Summer,” where Magixx grapples with strong emotions, numbing them with alcohol and illicit substances. In the weeks that followed, he unveiled the track-list at what appeared to be a listening party, with the titles printed on the back of his t-shirt. ‘I Dream In Color’ consists of 13 tracks, including four lead singles—tracks that, had they been withheld, might have alleviated the album’s overall dreariness—and no new features.

‘I Dream In Color’ opens with the weighty “Consistency,” where Magixx curiously finds strength and solace in gratitude. Both in “Consistency” and throughout the album, he shares stories of resilience, navigating personal struggles while balancing his responsibilities and career as an artist. This theme spills into the second track, “Ori Mi,” where a prayerful Magixx commits his hustle into God’s hands, resulting in an excellent Afro-adura hustler’s anthem. The refreshing sound of “With You” sparks some excitement, showcasing a love-struck Magixx on a familiar subject he has mastered, delivered with such sublime ease that it instantly connects with the listener.

Previously released singles like “Okay,” where Magixx wrestles with overwhelming responsibilities and familial expectations, the South East-influenced “Vibration” featuring Jeriq, and “Bad Decisions & Foreplay” are well-placed throughout the album, contributing positively to its sequencing.

However, midway through the project, the absence of sonic variety makes it difficult—almost impossible—to pinpoint a personal favourite or standout track. The album’s uneventful progression renders the listening experience tedious, raising questions about whether Magixx recorded his debut album under the grandest circumstances and sharpest artistic form. There’s a slight shift in energy with “Eleven,” temporarily breaking free from the monotony, leading into the potentially mainstream-leaning “Sexy Lady.” 

While Magixx makes a bold move in offering listeners access to a more sensitive, private aspect of his life, ‘I Dream In Color’ exposes a deficit in his versatility. The tracks feel too indistinguishable in melody, cadence, and production, making the album a challenging listen despite its deeply personal themes.

After a patient buildup, Magixx has unveiled his debut album, ‘I Dream In Color’ The 13-track project, teased with a listening party photo drop on social media, includes four previously released singles and a collaboration with Jeriq. While some fans might question the choice of Jeriq over an artist aligned with Magixx’s R&B style, the album’s release clarifies his vision.

‘I Dream In Color’ opens with “Consistency,” produced by Sparqq, where Magixx reflects on his journey, acknowledging both triumphs and tribulations. “Ori Mi,” the second track, reveals a prayerful Magixx, expressing optimism and linking his ambition to financial success. These introspective beginnings signal a departure from typical romantic themes, offering a raw look into Magixx’s personal experiences.

Despite this focus on personal narratives, Magixx doesn’t entirely abandon matters of the heart. “With You,” “Winter & Summer,” “Alchl,” and “Sexy Lady” explore romantic themes, adding to the album’s emotional landscape. Rooted in familial dynamics, anxieties about betrayal, and a quest for inspiration, ‘I Dream In Color’ presents a multifaceted portrait of Magixx’s artistic vision.

Kel-P & Wande Coal – Best Of Both Worlds

Afrobeats enthusiasts are treated to ‘Best Of Both Worlds,’ a collaborative EP from producer Kel-P and vocalist Wande Coal. This five-track project showcases their collective talent, delivering a blend of melodic Afrobeats. Kel-P revealed in a BBC Radio 1Xtra interview that the EP was a spontaneous creation, born from a prolific recording sessions after his initial 2018 meeting with Wande Coal. Wande Coal, often called the “king of melody,” reaffirms his title throughout the concise EP. Including the 2024 release “Old Soldier,” the project also features the official release of the viral snippet “Ejo,” though disappointingly, Ikechukwu’s verse was omitted. Each track on ‘Best Of Both Worlds’ stands out, highlighting the synergy of brilliant producer and sublime vocalist.

Young Jonn – Only Fans

Young Jonn has launched his 2025 campaign with the single ‘Only Fans,‘ a track that embodies a carefree, playboy persona. Known for his versatility, Young Jonn delivers an infectious blend of smooth melodies and a relaxed vibe. The lyrics of ‘Only Fans‘ articulate Young Jonn’s hedonistic outlook, exemplified by the opening line, “Too many girls in the world for me to be with only one.” Drawing a parallel to King Solomon, Young Jonn positions himself as a modern-day figure of indulgence, prioritizing pleasure and freedom.

Still signed with Dapper Music, unlike his former label mates Seyi Vibez and Muyeez, Tml Vibez collaborates with Young Jonn and 4kerty on “Paper.” Since joining the Dapper family, with Seyi Vibez playing a pivotal role in his career, Tml Vibez continues to demonstrate why he is one of the preferred new street-hop artists, perhaps due to his ability to create a calm, groovy track like “Paper” while retaining elements of a street-hop song. Young Jonn, with his track record as a stellar collaborator, complements Tml Vibez’s delivery, resulting in an undeniably addictive track.

Olamide – Idan Buruku

“Idan Buruku” feels long overdue, considering Olamide has been teasing this gritty side of himself on tracks like “Synchro System” from Ikigai. Clearly, Olamide couldn’t keep his raw essence locked away forever. Out of nowhere, he surprises the industry with a little over a minute-long freestyle titled “Idan Buruku.”While he certainly doesn’t need to prove anything at this point in his career, moments like this serve as necessary reminders.  On “Idan Buruku,” Olamide, with commanding confidence, reaffirms that he’s still got it and can unleash it at will: “Fuck that top 3 convo shii mosafejo, Always on my demon time jenja tebafegbo, Tobati de di rap iyalayin ema shu sabo, Lyrical Kim Jung-Un o ya werey ju maluuu, Eyin lokan mi wa timba gbo beat ma di evil, Devil mama tremble ama ki igbe eje Jesu, ‘Cause I’m really bloody with it, nobody on my level.”

Magixx’s delivery on “Winter & Summer” is beyond impressive—a creation of artistic freedom and innovation.

In the slightly over three-minute song, it’s quite amusing to learn Magixx is in this state because of a muse he hasn’t spoken to in two years. As the song progresses, Magixx indeed becomes dramatic over this two-year incommunicado arrangement, a feeling he drowns in liquor. Even after implying they have moved on, he enlists backup singers who elevate the chorus and make the listener feel what he feels at this point.

He sustains the energy from the chorus into the second verse, making it even groovier with shakes, subtle percussion, and melodies from a violin that add a layer of richness to the song. 

With “Winter & Summer”, it appears the year 2025 is off to a great start for Magixx. Expectations are now high, and we hope to see him deliver more moving records like this.
