Shallipopi – Auracle

Nigerian superstar Shallipopi returns with his third studio album—22 tracks, over an hour long, and stacked with both local and international heavyweights. Arriving after his 2023 debut, “Presido Pluto”, and 2024’s “Shakespopi”, ‘Auracle’ marks the moment he shrugs off the “Benin boy who blew up with two chaotic, meme-first projects” tag. This time, he’s aiming for permanence. “Auracle”—a playful twist on “Oracle”—leans into the internet slang “aura”, that shorthand for a distinctive, effortlessly cool, enigmatic presence.

Sixty-five minutes long, you know the album won’t outclass his earlier projects. It sometimes feels like he made it over a long weekend, but still, ‘Auracle’ is a convincing contender.

The album opens with “Ant,” a groove-laced, highlife-infused mood-setter that taps into the indigenous pockets Shallipopi has always handled well. It works. Then comes “Laho,” the familiar lead single, snapping the project into full gear. From there, it’s classic Shallipopi: half-sung street sermons, Benin–Pidgin flexes, easy-rhyme hooks, and enough log drums to power a December rave. “Gbefun,” “Opuehh,” and “Like That (Bomboclat)” are pure dancefloor artillery. Production-wise, Auracle offers a more polished and expensive sound than his previous lo-fi hits. While the core elements of the “Pluto” sound remain, the heavy basslines and repetitive, trance-inducing hooks, there is a noticeable upgrade in the mixing and mastering.

The features carry the project whenever the formula starts to sag. Gunna on “Him” gives him his sleekest transatlantic moment yet; Pa Salieu injects bite into “Pull Up”; Burna Boy transforms “Laho II” into an obvious radio behemoth; and Rauw Alejandro slips into “Laho III,” giving the third iteration surprising freshness. Shallipopi sticks to what works—his lazy drawl, his amapiano pocket, and those sticky sing-song hooks remain hypnotically effective.

Where Auracle really surprises is in the quieter moments. “Stay” (with Swae Lee) and “Searching 4 Me” finally let the beat breathe, dial down the bravado, and reveal a 22-year-old trying to steady himself in real time. Those two tracks alone make the album feel less disposable than ‘Shakespopi’.

Auracle is Shallipopi growing up—just not too much. It’s tighter than his earlier tapes, more ambitious in its sound choices, but still defiantly simple at its core. If you already like Pluto, you’ll find six immediate playlist picks. If you never understood the hype, this won’t convert you. 

Where his two preceding albums, 2023’s Presido La Pluto and Shakespopi, were built around a gritty hip-hop framework and groovy native samples, Auracle pulls influences from soul, R&B and amapiano to centre Shallipopi’s messaging. There’s a dedication to the rungs of the ladder he’s ascended on “Igho”, but Shallipopi is still about soundtracking a good time. He’s having the time of his life on “Like That (bomboclatt” with Wizkid and detailing his financial liquidity on “Ballingo”

Kizz Daniel – Holy Romance

On the first Friday of December, Kizz Daniel drops ‘Holy Romance’ like he’s been timing it for peak Detty December playlists. The intro eases in with soft, pacy highlife percussion—no heavy 808s, no log-drum chaos. Just gentle rhythms and a swaying bassline. Then Kizz Daniel glides in, voice rich and smooth, singing about a love that’s “holy” but dripping with signature mischief. The opening lines flip religious metaphors into bedroom confessions: devotion dressed in desire, sacred vows whispered under dim lights. The chorus is one of his stickiest in a minute—melodic, featherlight, the kind that loops in your head long after the music ends. His falsetto floats without effort, untouched by autotune. The bridge dips into a soft reggae bounce, polished but intimate. It’s built for slow wines, rooftop evenings, and the kind of road trip you wish would never end.

ID Cabasa – Unfinished Business

Legendary producer ID Cabasa—the architect behind half of early Afrobeats through the Coded Tunes era, the man who launched Olamide and 9ice—steps out once again with his third studio album, ‘Unfinished Business’. It’s a meeting point between eras: reimagined classics intertwined with new cuts, old guards sparring with the next wave.

The project kicks off with “Bere Mi (Reimagined)” featuring T.I Blaze and Zlatan: pure street-hop energy built on highlife swagger. It’s the generational handshake the album promises—ID Cabasa’s DNA distilled for younger ears without abandoning its roots.

“Photocopy (Reimagined)” revives the iconic 2008 9ice record. 9ice’s soulful croon anchors the nostalgia, while Vector sharpens it with clean, 2025-ready bars. Crisp hi-hats and the familiar guitar shimmer pull the track between eras, perfectly suspended. Then comes “Olufunmi (Reimagined)” featuring Fireboy DML, Odumodublvck, Boj, and Joeboy—a loaded lineup that turns Styl-Plus’ classic romance into something urgent and glowing. Fireboy’s falsetto soars, Odumodublvck brings grit, Boj smooths the edges, and Joeboy warms the hook. ID Cabasa keeps the percussion tight and intentional, updating the nostalgia without overwhelming it. “Anytime (Reimagined)” brings 9ice back again, alongside Bella Shmurda, Ayo Maff, and Ajebo Hustlers. The 9ice classic morphs into a street-hop rally—Bella’s raw emotion, Ayo Maff’s fire, and Ajebo Hustlers’ bounce all melding seamlessly under Cabasa’s immaculate production.

‘Unfinished Business’ delivers exactly what it sets out to: nostalgia without gimmicks. The reimagined tracks are the heart of the project—vibrant, respectful, and recharged. Some new songs blend in a bit too safely, but the overall project stands tall as a reminder that Afrobeats didn’t sprout overnight; its lineage was built in rooms like ID Cabasa’s. By revisiting and reimagining the classics through a contemporary lens, he nudges the culture forward—just like he’s been doing for nearly two decades.

BOJ – Duplicity

Alté pioneer BOJ returns with Duplicity, his sixth studio album, arriving a year after 2024’s 12 Summers. True to its name, it leans into themes of duality—light and dark, lover and rebel. “Contraband” with Olamide follows, rooted in Afro-pop grit. Olamide’s groovy, laid-back delivery slices through Boj’s equally laid-back cadence; luxury, vice, and caution all in one tight package. “Diamonds”, with Mavo, softens the edges with sparkling synths, warm harmonies, and a tender, unfussy hook. “Ijo” shifts gears into a kinetic groove built for dancefloors—minimal lyrics, maximum sway. Then “Cana” with Pa Salieu kicks in, an earworm loaded with energy; Pa Salieu’s UK grit meshes beautifully with Boj’s calm centre. Sonically, Duplicity is rich, warm, and textured, largely thanks to the production work of Genio and Blaise Beats. The album moves away from the standard Afrobeats shakers and leans into jazzier chords, muted trumpets, and rolling basslines. “Shana” (with Show Dem Camp and Joey B) carries that confident alté bounce, with SDC weaving silk and Joey B adding Ghanaian spice. It’s one of the stickiest hooks on the album. “After Hours” with Anaïs Cardot, melting into a smoky R&B haze of muted horns, jazzy keys, and soft shadows everywhere. Their vocals trade in whispers, intimate and low-lit, like overhearing two people talk too close on a rooftop. Genio’s production is warm, uncluttered, and textured. “Imposter Syndrome” with Obongjayar is an immediate standout—Afropop pulses under jittery synths as both artists dissect fame’s false smiles, landing like a therapy session you can still two-step to. “Italawa”, featuring Odumodublvck and SGaWD, delivers gritty duality, hard vs. soft, and street vs. soul. Sharp, experimental, and replay-heavy. “Command” strips things back with bare percussion, introspection, and a quiet clarity. “Choke” leans into darker electronica, shadowy and atmospheric. “Paranoia” is short and vulnerable, like a diary confession set to a groove. “Coming for Me” closes the album with a slow exhale—acknowledging the paranoia but choosing defiance. Horns fade gently, completing the circle. ‘Duplicity’ is Boj at his most balanced—cohesive without being rigid, dual-toned without feeling divided. It’s intimate and gritty in equal measure.

Bella Shmurda – Holy Jah

On his newest release, Bella Shmurda plays the part of a streets’ griot with a preacher’s tone. “Holy Jah” is a spiritual yet street-rooted cut that bridges divine faith and gritty survival. Produced by Popito, the beat is deliberately minimal, clearing space for Bella’s raw, throaty voice to turn each lyric into a rhythmic prayer. He’s singing to the divine but also to the everyday hustler, folding reggae’s sacred tones into the sharp edges of street-hop. Lines like “Wetin dey you find for sokoto, omo e fit dey your shokoto” cut through with timeless wisdom, while the refrain “Holy Jah, wey know tomorrow” feels like an anthem of surrender and resilience. With his newest delivery on “Holy Jah” Bella Shmurda is still the Ghetto Preacher; raw, poetic, and utterly relatable.

Tiwa Savage – This One Is Personal (Album)

Four years after ‘Celia’, Tiwa Savage comes back with an album that feels like she’s peeled off all her armor. ‘This One Is Personal’ is a 15-track journey that reads like a diary with confessions, heartbreaks, lessons, and the rawest sides of her voice. Recorded over two years across Nashville, Malibu, and Lagos, the album is an expansive yet intimate body of work, blending Afrobeats with R&B and soul in seamless fashion. Standouts include the biting “You’re Not the First (You’re Just the Worst)”, the piano-driven “I’m Done”, and the Skepta-assisted “On A Low”. James Fauntleroy’s pen adds depth on “Change”, while taves brings a sultry edge on “Addicted”. Tiwa Savage executive-produced the project alongside Vanessa Amadi-Ogbonna and Mystro, and you can hear her stamp everywhere. While some may find the feature list sparse, it seemed Tiwa Savage wanted this to be her story, in her voice, with few distractions. Vulnerable, bruised, but confident, ‘This One Is Personal’ is perhaps Tiwa Savage’s at her boldest yet.

Young Jonn feat. Wizkid – Cash Flow

Young Jonn has been steadily building his transition from hitmaker producer to frontline artist, and “Cash Flow: with Wizkid proves he’s fully there. The track is a decadent ride through wealth, desire, and celebration, merging Afrobeats sheen with amapiano bounce. Young Jonn’s verses glide with the confidence of someone who knows the beat bends to his will, while Wizkid’s silky entrance provides that effortless star power. Ragee’s production is lush but uncluttered, letting the groove breathe while adding amapiano flourishes that feel both current and timeless. Coming off “Che Che” with Asake and “Only Fans”, “Cash Flow” is a clear statement that Jonn’s upcoming ‘Blue Disco’ album is set to be a serious contender in Afropop’s evolving landscape.

DJ Spinall – Eko Groove (Album)

DJ Spinall has always carried Lagos in his DNA, but with ‘Eko Groove’, he writes a direct love letter to the city. The 14-track album is an explosive yet measured blend of Afrobeats, amapiano, and reggae, crafted with the intent of global dance floors but rooted in “Eko” energy. The opener, ‘Eko Groove’ featuring Ayinde Bakare, sets the tone with layered percussion and live instrumentation, while “Struggle” with Summer Walker, Buju Banton, and Jaz Karis dives into soulful storytelling. Pre-release singles like “Early” with Victony and “Excited” with Ami Faku, Heavy-K, and Niniola gave hints of the sonic diversity, but the full project makes it clear that Spinall is as much a cultural ambassador as he is a DJ. Features from Wizkid, Teni, and Niniola balance local flavor with international shine, and the production quality reflects his hands-on role. Recorded between tours, the album mirrors Spinall’s journey from Lagos rooftops to Coachella and Glastonbury stages. ‘Eko Groove’ is D Spinall bottling Lagos’ chaos, rhythm, and joy into a global dance soundtrack.

Gyakie – After Midnight (Album)

After a run of successful EPs, Gyakie finally delivers her debut album, ‘After Midnight’. Seventeen tracks long, the project is a sweeping exploration of love, heartbreak, spirituality, and nightlife, crafted mostly in the quiet hours after midnight. Gyakie lets her Ghanaian heritage, her father’s highlife influence, and her Afro-fusion sensibilities melt into something cinematic. The album balances sacred reflections with scandalous nightlife energy. “Sankofa” offers soulful introspection, while “House Party” with Young Jonn lights up dance floors. Guest features are carefully curated with 6LACK adding sultry R&B depth on “Damn U”, Shatta Wale brings grit on “Harmattan”, Headie One fuses drill with her smooth tone on “I’m Not Taken”, and Kojey Radical adds poetic edge on “Party Galore”. ‘After Midnight’ is a project listeners will find organic, with Gyakie writing 90% of the material herself, starting with moods before lyrics.For Gyakie, “After Midnight” is a milestone, an album that could easily cement her as one of the leading African voices in the global conversation.

Kizz Daniel – To Be A Man

Following her debut in 2020, Africaine has shown a consistency that matches her talent. Now, preceded by a few singles and an earlier release, “Live Life” in March this year, Africaine shares a new vulnerable song titled “Give Me Love”

The two-minute Afro R&B record, produced by god0marr, blends western influences with a West African delivery that reflects the Connecticut-born singer’s familiarity with her Nigerian roots.

The mid-tempo “Give Me Love” portrays an emotional Africaine struggling to come to terms with a slipping love. She expresses herself in English, Pidgin, and Igbo, possibly picked up from her many summer trips to Owerri, Nigeria, over the years. She pleads with her lover: “If you leave, where would I go / How could I find someone to love me like you,” her delivery cutting through a listener’s heart with honest, heavy lyrics.

But Rema wasn’t done making a statement about his artistic ambidexterity.

What was initially meant to be a four-track EP featuring Victony, Runtown, and Phyno now appears to be expanding into a full-length studio album.

According to updates from his camp, Kizz Daniel plans to release a new track every week leading up to the ‘Uncle K‘ album drop—roughly seven lead singles—with “Police,” featuring Angélique Kidjo and Johnny Drille, as the first.

Over a dance-inducing, mid-tempo production helmed by M.O.G Beatz, Johnny Drille, and Blaisebeatz, Kizz Daniel and his collaborators explore themes of devotion and love in his signature rhythmic style that resonates effortlessly with mainstream audiences. “Police” is a heartfelt ode to commitment, with “Abena”—an Akan name for females born on Tuesday—symbolizing the love subject across the three verses.

Since his emergence under the YBNL imprint, courtesy of indigenous rap legend Olamide, Lil Kesh has built a reputation for crafting anthems that reflect the raw, sometimes immoral, but always relatable realities of the streets.

With ‘Forever Getting It (FGI)‘—his third studio album and a titular nod to his debut Young and Getting It (YAGI)—Lil Kesh revives familiar elements with the same artistic vibrancy that marked his YBNL days. The seven-track project showcases hunger-fueled rap styles centered around introspection, hustle, fraud, and women—all executed with his decade-old flair for hit-making.

The album kicks off with “More Money More Life,” a reflective track on his journey and rise in class, attributing his wealth to internet fraud: “More money more life, everyday we online.” On the upbeat, dance-commanding “No Disorder”—a lead single—Lil Kesh shines, interpolating “Shele Gan Gan,” which he reprises again on “Lifestyle” as the album progresses.

The initial lead single, “Moving,” suggests a shift in his music. While his work is often characterized by heavy, melancholic emotions, “Moving” hints at a newfound ability to manage these feelings, which may ultimately influence the album’s themes, style, and overall execution.

Uncle K — Kizz Daniel

Kizz Daniel‘s highly anticipated ‘Uncle K’, a four-track project featuring collaborations with Runtown, Victony, and Phyno, was slated for release on November 29, 2024, intended as a year-end offering. However, as fans awaited its midnight arrival on digital streaming platforms (DSPs), the project failed to appear. This caused considerable disappointment, especially as Kizz Daniel did not initially issue an official statement explaining the postponement. Instead, he removed all posts about the project, including older ones, from his social media. Approximately five days later, Kizz Daniel shared a video announcing that ‘Uncle K’ had not been scrapped but would be released sometime in 2025. The video was captioned, “Family First, Music Second…BRB—Uncle K.” This delay raises the possibility that Kizz Daniel that he may add further tracks, extending the originally planned four-track project. 

I Am The Blueprint — Qing Madi

Since her impressive entry into the music scene, Qing Madi has consistently demonstrated her intention to establish a lasting presence. As one of the promising stars of the new generation, Qing Madi effortlessly connects with listeners through her undeniable talent and irresistible music. The R&B fusion songstress released her self-titled EP in 2023, significantly boosting her mainstream recognition. Burna Boy has been vocal about his forthcoming album, ‘No Sign Of Weakness’, a title he impressed upon fans only months after the release of his eighth studio album ‘I Told Them’. While Burna Boy has yet to announce a specific release date, there have been moments suggesting an imminent arrival, with snippets of tracks surfacing online. While most of these snippets, such as “Empty Chairs,” “No Fly Zone,” and “Don’t Need You,” are confirmed and have even been performed by Burna Boy himself, an official track list for ‘No Sign Of Weakness’ has not yet been released. However, all indications suggest the album will drop this year, with “Higher” potentially included.

‘Timeless’, one of Davido’s finest albums, released in 2023, proved that the artist, not typically known for his knack on albums, can create a cohesive masterpiece. The surprise announcement of Davido’s forthcoming fifth studio album might seem premature, yet it appears thoughtfully planned. This is evident in the album’s title, ‘5ive’, the intended year of release, the cover artwork, and, of course, the fact that it is his fifth studio album. The album announcement coincided with Davido’s second release of 2024, “Funds,” featuring Odumodublvck and Chike, shortly after his first release with YG Marley. The 17-track album is set for release on March 14, 2025.

Viva Lavida — Joeboy

Joeboy‘s significant contribution to the Nigerian Afro-R&B scene will undoubtedly be remembered for years to come. One of Nigeria’s exceptionally talented artists, he has consistently delivered excellent albums and singles that have resonated organically with a wide audience, propelling him to commercial success. While this may be speculative, his commencement of the Lavida World Tour in Perth, Australia, coupled with his tweet “2025 – Viva Lavida Year,” strongly suggests that this tour will culminate in a significant moment for the artist: the release of an album.

Tiwa Savage’s Last Studio Album

Tiwa Savage has undeniably reached a later stage in her career, having seen a shift in her core fanbase, with less of the fervent anticipation that characterized her earlier years. Over the past three years, she has released several projects using varied strategies in hopes of reconnecting with a broader commercial audience, yet without fully recapturing that earlier momentum. While she has been active recently, with chart-topping features and singles, a bittersweet announcement emerged via her Instagram story: her next album may be her last, expressing a sense of exhaustion after her efforts. Blaqbonez apparently has no intention of slowing down his musical output, even after his three-track single “Of Many Colors” in October of the previous year. He began the year by teasing new music on January 1st, featuring his signature flossy lines and clever punchlines, with the caption “Consistency, 2025.” The following day, Blaqbonez quoted the now-viral video, hinting at an album on the horizon: “Almost time for the album. Gear up.” While the exact timing remains uncertain, given his last album, ‘Emeka Must Shine’, was released in 2023, it is hoped that the new project will arrive in 2025.

God’s Engineering 3 — A-Q

In a post shared across his social media platforms in October of the previous year, A-Q announced the third and final installment of the ‘God’s Engineering’ series. Inspired by real-life events, the album is scheduled for release in May or June of this year. A-Q is undoubtedly expected to conclude the series with his characteristic lyrical depth and relatable themes.

From the beginning of January, we have been jamming to fire tracks from our favorites and some of these tracks have been collaborations.

It’s always nice when two or more artists can come together and make magic in the studio. From Nigerian superstars teaming up with global icons to African artists using music as a means of uniting Africa, 2024 has really seen an increase in Afrobeats, Highlife, and Amapiano collaborations that push the genre’s boundaries. From rising stars like Brown Joel, Hyce, and TitoM to global superstars such as Davido, Burna Boy, Tyla, and Skepta, collaborations this year have been elite.

So let’s go ahead and highlight some of the top Afrobeats collaborations of 2024 so far.

TitoM x Burna Boy x Yuppe x S.N.E – Tshwala Bam (Remix)

Beginning our list is the catchy Amapiano song, Tshwala Bam by TitoM, Burna Boy, Yuppe, and S.N.E.

The song had almost everyone doing the Tshwala Bam dance trend, watching the videos, and singing at the top of their voices, even though most of them didn’t even know the lyrics, but it was so enjoyable to dance and sing along to. Released as the lead single for his “Lungu Boy” album, Asake teamed up with U.K Drill rapper Central cee as they delivered one heck of the track they titled “Wave.” Asake’s soulful vocals blended so well with Central Cee‘s energetic rap. The song features catchy hooks, infectious beats, and a laid-back & chill vibe which show how much chemistry, style, and versatility both artist have as a duo. It’s a superb collaboration in the Afrobeats scene.

Tyla x Gunna x Skillibeng – Jump

The ninth track on Tyla‘s self titled debut album, Jump blends Afrobeats, hip-hop, and dancehall for an energetic vibe. Tyla’s infectious vocals, Gunna’s smooth flow, and Skillibeng’s Jamaican flair create a unique combination which makes the song more appealing to a wider audience. The song is a high-energy track that Tyla uses to celebrate her culture, her city Johannesburg, her rise to fame, confidence, and living life to the fullest.

Boypee x Hyce x Brown Joel – Ogechi

As long as you are on different social media platforms, you definitely came across the Ogechi song by rising stars Boypee, Hyce, and Brown Joel. A love song filled with so much Highlife vibes from the Eastern part of Nigeria, Ogechi is a soulful track that celebrates love and divine blessings. With smooth melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and vibrant rhythms, it was so heartwarming listening as all three artist perfectly blended their voices seamlessly, and delivered a captivating rhythm that listeners can relate to.

It is no news that whenever Ghana and Nigeria combine for whatever production in the entertainment world as a whole, it is always going to be a hit, and this time, that was exactly the case with Ghana’s melodious King Promise teaming Nigeria’s sensation Shallipopi on this track Continental.

The second track from his debut album titled True to Self, King Promise delivers a melodious tune and Shallipopi doesn’t disappoint as he gives off so much energy and rhythm in his verse as well, making the track one that would have music listener putting it on repeat.

It was a surprise when fans learnt Ruger and Bnxn were collaborating on a song after their internet beef in 2022, and it was an even bigger surprise to know they had a whole EP titled RnB ready to our ears with.

The song’s themes are on love, success, and confidence, as both artists bring their different styles. Kizz Daniel x Davido – Twe Twe Remix

Flyboi and popular hitmaker Kizz Daniel is known for delivering tunes that keep playing in your head for years and have you dancing wherever you hear it, and this time, he enlisted global superstar Davido on the remix of his hit song Twe Twe.

As expected, Davido delivered a fire verse that had everyone singing along when it came up. Kizz Daniel and Davido have collaborated a few other times, and this is one of those songs that don’t fall short when they collaborate. Darkoo x Rema – Favorite Girl Remix

Social media platforms were already going crazy with the release of Darkoo‘s Favorite Girl. It had its trend on social media and had parties lit, but that was the beginning. With Rema jumping on the remix, it gave the track more fire, trends, and plays too. As of this moment, it is still topping charts and getting more parties turnt up.

“Wadibusa” —Uncle Waffles, Royal MusiQ, OHP Sage, Pcee

Uncle Waffles is no stranger to viral moments, and “Wadibusa” is another notch on her belt. Amapiano thrives on groove, and the collective force of Royal MusiQ, OHP Sage, and Pcee ensured the track has not only been a dancefloor anthem but also gained massive traction on TikTok. It’s the kind of track that burns slow and steady, turning into a staple at both club sets and social media feeds.

“Stubborn” – Victony ft. Asake

Benin Boys – Rema ft. Shallipopi

It appeared the Ravage EP era was some sort of prequel to a more creatively sinister phase and Rema’s sophomore album, ‘HEIS’. Built on elements of punk rock and afrobeats, the homecoming album heralded a shift from a popular but now drab sound with its first lead single, ‘Benin Boys’. The track was appropriate as a lead single and in choice of collaboration with Shallipopi, who is from the same hometown as Rema. Benin Boys is Rema’s idea of upraising Benin City and putting it on the map. He undeniably accomplishes that with Benin Boys and ultimately the ‘HEIS’ album, and his homecoming event in Benin City last month is a testament.

When Ayra Starr teamed up with Giveon, it was the merging of two soulful worlds. “Last Heartbreak Song” is both a melancholy anthem and a streaming heavyweight. The underground vibes on this one have translated into mainstream success, while its streaming performance continues to impress.
