Afro Nation Portugal 2027 Lineup: Davido, Rema and Fally Ipupa Lead First Wave
Afro Nation Portugal is looking ahead to another major summer in the Algarve, unveiling the first wave of its 2027 lineup with Davido, Rema and Fally Ipupa leading the bill for the festival’s return to Praia da Rocha in Portimão.
The seventh edition of Afro Nation Portugal will take place from June 9 to 11, 2027, moving the festival roughly a month earlier than its recent July slot. The change puts Afro Nation closer to the beginning of the European summer while keeping its familiar beachfront setting in Portugal’s Algarve region. The festival has confirmed that the 2027 edition will once again centre on Afrobeats, Amapiano, African music and the wider culture surrounding them.
The announcement arrives after Afro Nation spent the past several years establishing Portugal as one of the biggest meeting points for African music and its global diaspora. The festival says its Portugal edition has grown beyond a conventional music festival since launching in 2019, with an average audience of more than 40,000 people from over 180 countries.
Davido, Rema and Fally Ipupa headline the return
The first announcement brings together three artists whose careers represent different but increasingly connected parts of contemporary African music.
Davido returns to Afro Nation following his previous appearances at the festival, with the Nigerian-American superstar occupying one of the top positions on the 2027 bill. The festival’s announcement points to his continued global reach and the impact of his catalogue, particularly following his latest album Oriadé.
Rema is also returning to Praia da Rocha. His previous Afro Nation Portugal appearance came as a headliner in 2024, and his return comes after the continued expansion of his Afrorave sound and international catalogue.
The third headliner gives the lineup a particularly important Francophone and Central African dimension. Fally Ipupa returns to Afro Nation Portugal three years after his 2024 performance, bringing Congolese rumba and contemporary African pop back to the top of the festival’s bill.
The festival is also using his appearance to mark 20 years of his career. Afro Nation describes Fally Ipupa as a major figure in the evolution of contemporary African music, connecting Congolese rumba with modern pop and representing the festival’s increasingly broad interpretation of African music.
Alongside the three headliners, GIMS has been announced as a special guest. The Franco-Congolese star adds another major Francophone presence to a lineup that is already reaching well beyond the Nigerian Afrobeats centre of gravity.
Omah Lay, Shenseea and Victony join the LIT Stage
The main LIT Stage will also feature a broad mix of African, Caribbean and UK talent.
The first wave includes Omah Lay, Odeal, Shenseea, Valiant, Victony, Bamby, Miimii KDS and Rayvanny, with South Gidi Experience also confirmed to lead the LIT Stage afterparty.
The combination is notable for how naturally it moves between different strands of Black music. Omah Lay and Victony represent Nigeria’s contemporary Afrobeats and alternative R&B movement, while Shenseea and Valiant bring Jamaica’s current dancehall generation into the festival. Odeal adds a British perspective, while Tanzanian star Rayvanny expands the bill further into East Africa.
South Gidi Experience will bring another layer to the festival’s Nigerian-South African exchange. The live project, which debuted at Afro Nation in 2026, draws from the collaborative South Gidi Experience project associated with DJ Tunez and DJ Maphorisa, with the festival describing its return as part of the LIT Stage’s final-night programming.
Kabza De Small leads another major Piano People lineup
If the LIT Stage represents the festival’s broad African and Caribbean reach, the Piano People Stage once again gives South Africa a dedicated platform.
Kabza De Small and TxC lead the first announcement, with Dlala Thukzin arriving as a special guest. The wider lineup includes 031Choppa, 2woBunnies, Benzo, Thatohatsi, Uncool MC, W4DE, Xduppy B2B Al Xapo, Young Stunna and Zee Nxumalo.
The programming places amapiano’s foundational figures alongside younger artists and DJs helping push the genre into new territory. Dlala Thukzin’s inclusion also brings a strong connection to Gqom, giving the South African stage a broader electronic identity rather than limiting it to amapiano alone.
The South African presence continues through the Afrotronic Takeover, which returns with Caiiro, Djeff, Jamiie, Aniko and JNR SA among its first announced names.
Afro Nation shifts into an earlier summer window
The move to June 9–11 is one of the more significant changes for the 2027 edition. Afro Nation has traditionally occupied a later position in Portugal’s summer calendar, but the new dates place the festival closer to the beginning of the European summer. The official festival FAQ confirms that the main festival runs from June 9 through June 11, with an opening party on June 8 and a closing party on June 12.
For ticketing, presale begins September 29, followed by general sale on September 30, according to the festival and Portuguese broadcaster RTP.
With its first 2027 announcement, Afro Nation is again positioning Portugal as a meeting point for different branches of African and Caribbean music. Davido and Rema bring two generations of Afrobeats globalisation to the top of the bill, and Fally Ipupa brings Central Africa and Francophone Africa into the headline conversation, while the LIT, Piano People, and Afrotronic stages widen the festival’s scope across dancehall, amapiano, Gqom, electronic music, and contemporary African pop.
More artists are expected to be announced for Afro Nation Portugal 2027 ahead of the festival’s return to Praia da Rocha next June.
