The producer has named his newborn daughter Ayra Starr Offord after Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr.
The sweet gesture did not go unnoticed by Ayra Starr.
The Mavin Records star responded to the announcement, expressing her appreciation for the tribute and welcoming the newest Ayra Starr into the world.
For an artist whose name has become increasingly associated with a new generation of African pop, having a child named after her is a pretty memorable addition to the résumé.
Slikk Muzik, who has worked with some of the biggest names in music and has earned four Grammy wins, is no stranger to the world of Afrobeats and contemporary African music.
Ayra Starr, meanwhile, has built her own reputation as one of the most recognisable young voices in the genre. Since breaking out with her self-titled debut album in 2021, she has gone from Mavin newcomer to global pop star, with songs such as “Rush” and “Sability” helping establish her distinctive place in Afrobeats.
So, somewhere out there, there is now a little Ayra Starr Offord growing up with a name that comes with quite a story.
Considering the original Ayra Starr is still very much in the middle of her own story, that makes the tribute even sweeter.
