Ayra Starr’s “Commas” Earns Gold Certification In France
Ayra Starr continues to find new milestones in the international market as her 2024 single, “Commas”, earns Gold certification in France. The achievement, reported on November 2, 2026, makes it the Nigerian singer’s fifth song to receive a certification in the European country, extending a catalogue that has continued to find commercial success beyond its home market.
Released on February 2, 2024, “Commas” arrived as the lead single from Ayra Starr’s sophomore album, The Year I Turned 21, which followed on May 31, 2024. Built around an infectious Afrobeats production and the singer’s characteristically self-assured delivery, the record quickly established itself as one of the album’s standout offerings. Its appeal was evident early on, with Mavin Records announcing in May 2024 that the song had surpassed 100 million streams across platforms within its first two months. It also enjoyed an impressive run on the UK Afrobeats Chart, spending five consecutive weeks at the summit.

Interestingly, the French certification tells a slightly different story about the song’s international performance. Despite not making an appearance on France’s official singles chart, “Commas” has continued to accumulate enough consumption to reach Gold status, demonstrating how a record can build a significant audience beyond the visibility of traditional chart placements. According to reports, the certification was registered on October 30, 2026, more than two and a half years after its release.
The latest plaque also adds to Ayra Starr’s growing history of success in France. Her 2022 breakthrough single, “Rush”, reached Diamond status in September 2023, while “Hypé”, her collaboration with French-Malian superstar Aya Nakamura, achieved the same certification in April 2025. She also holds Gold certifications for her appearances on Ninho’s “No Love” and Rvssian’s “Santa”, which features Rauw Alejandro.
With “Commas” joining that collection, Ayra Starr now has five certified songs in France, comprising two records on which she is the lead artist and three collaborative appearances. It is another noteworthy addition to the singer’s international catalogue and further evidence of the staying power of a song that has continued to find listeners long after its initial release.
