Young Jonn Responds to Critic Dismissing Blue Disco’s Chart Dominance
Nigerian singer-producer Young Jonn has publicly responded to online critics questioning his recent success, insisting that detractors should “leave it at that” if they don’t appreciate his music—rather than undermining his years of work.
Addressing a post on X (formerly Twitter) that accused him of using stream farms to boost his songs—which currently sit at No. 2 and No. 3 on the Apple Music Top Nigerian Songs chart—Young Jonn also responded to what he described as “negative reviews” of his sophomore album, “Blue Disco“, which labelled the project “tiring and monotonous”. He pointed to the album’s strong chart performance as proof of its impact and audience reception.

The 21-track album, released on November 28, 2025, debuted at No. 1 on Spotify Nigeria’s album chart, marking Young Jonn’s second consecutive project to achieve the position within a year. Nine songs from ‘Blue Disco’ entered the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, including seven new debuts, one re-entry, and one track holding for 14 weeks. The lead single “Lalala” (featuring Rema) reached No. 1 on Spotify Nigeria’s song chart, while “Cash Flow” (featuring Wizkid) debuted at No. 1 on both Spotify and Apple Music Nigeria with 1.1 million streams in its first 24 hours and peaked at No. 3 on the UK Official Afrobeats Chart.
Reviews have largely compared ‘Blue Disco’ unfavourably to Young Jonn’s 2024 debut, ‘Jiggy Forever’, which placed seven tracks on the same Billboard chart, calling both efforts repetitive in structure and lacking variety despite commercial success. Some outlets noted the album’s length as a potential drawback but praised its production and features from artists like Asake, Joeboy, and Darkoo, with “Che Che” (featuring Asake) topping Apple Music charts in several countries.
Young Jonn began his career as a behind-the-scenes producer before shifting fully into performing, a transition that saw him release his debut album in 2024. With Blue Disco’s success—featuring collaborations with major artists and seen as a statement of his growth—many fans and industry watchers view this moment as validation of his evolution from hitmaker to frontline Afrobeats artist.
